Heaven and Earth

The key to actually completing these game project things is not to be too ambitious, I am told, a lesson that strikes fiction writers full of gall every time they learn it–at least once a month. By early 2007, my ambitious game designs had been trampled by reality frequently enough that I knew making a huge role playing game was too epic for someone already used to describing their scenes with a few brief sentences or, once, a sentence fragment.  So I finally gave reality my lunch-money and created this opening chapter to a game called Heaven and Earth (for Mac OS X). For the Unity bloggers: a Middle of the Road game design if there ever was one. Basically, I just focused on what I’m good at: structure and story. Form and content. Scheme and trope. Fish and chips. It means the art in this game is, if one is to show pity, ascetic, and the sound—nonexistent. If you produce one of these things and you like what you see, maybe we can work together on something.
